For those of you who keep your geckos in Bioactive enclosures like we do, offering live insects can sometimes be a challenge, especially when it comes to worms and roaches.  As soon as you put them in the enclosure, they immediately disappear into the substrate.  Sure, you could hand or tong feed, or transfer your gecko to a plastic tub for live feedings.  But not all geckos are going to feel comfortable enough to hunt in an unfamiliar plastic tub, and if you have a very large collection like we do, hand feeding every single individual is not really realistic.  As much as we love spending time with our geckos, there simply isn’t enough time in a day to accomplish that.

So here’s our solution!  These disposable worm and roach feeders are awesome and affordable.  Please note, they are very light weight, and a full grown crested gecko could easily knock one over.  You’ll need to wedge them in or bury them in the substrate a bit to hold them firmly in place, but after that you’re golden.  There’s plenty of room for the bugs to crawl around, so there’s enough movement to attract your hunting geckos.  These black and white dishes help make the insects and their movement highly visible, and as a result our geckos have responded better to these dishes than some of the more naturally colored ones we’ve tried.  We use the black dishes when offering lighter colored insects (like fly spikes, BSFL, and wax worms), and the white dishes when offering darker buggies (like mealworms and dubia roaches – even with a dusting of calcium powder, the white dishes do well to bring focus onto these insects).  These are disposable dishes, so they’re not going to hold up to long term use and are not dishwasher-safe.  But disposable doesn’t necessarily mean “single-use”.  We’ve been able to get several feedings our of each dish before having to discard…and at less than a buck a pop, they’re quite affordable to replace when needed.

When you are done with your dish, be sure to toss it in the recycle bin, not the trash.

These also make great water dishes, especially in drawer-style caging units, as their design makes them spill-resistant.
